2026 Fellowship Program Application

To apply, please fill out the sections below and submit no later than

11:59pm EST on March 2nd, 2026.

You must attach a resume for your application to be considered.

Eligibility

Applicants must be current graduate or undergraduate students, at the time of application, of a designated minority serving institution who identify as part of a historically underrepresented group.

Please note

  1. As part of the requirements for our non-profit status, we would also like to know if you're a recipient of financial aid. This will not be a determinative factor in your application.
  2. To get to know your literary interests, we would also like to know which genres you typically read. This information will help us match you with your host agency.

Essay One Prompt

Please tell us why you are interested in a career in publishing, and what special skills and areas of interest you have that align with this career path.

Essay Two Prompt

Please tell us why you are applying to be a fellow for a literary agency, how this fellowship would help you reach your goals, and how you would use the grant money.

* If you have any questions about the program, please review our FAQ. *

The Fellowship Program

Our summer fellowship program thoughtfully matches college students from historically underrepresented groups with a literary agency and Association of American Literary Agents (AALA) member, and LAOC provides a grant directly to the student for their participation.

During the fellowship, fellows learn about the role of a literary agent in the publishing process — from finding authors to represent, to selling clients’ books to publishers, to negotiating contracts and managing author careers.  LAOC provides programming over the course of the summer to further fellows’ access to networking, mentorship, and educational panels that will cover the publishing industry as a whole.

Tell Me More

Before the fellowship, I wasn’t even sure what a literary agent was. By the end of the fellowship, I knew I wanted to be one.
